19 days...

19 more days! I am getting so excited. Here are the books I started reading:

-The Backyard Homestead ~ Carleen Madigan
-Starting and Running your Own Horse Business ~ Mary Ashby McDonald

Here are the books I still want:

-Horse Housing: How to Plan, Build and Remodel Barns and Sheds ~ Richard Klimesh, Cherry Hill
-Chicken Coops: 45 Building Plans for Housing your Flock ~ Judy Pangman
-Making your Small Farm Profitable ~ Ron Macher
-The Complete Vegetable & Herb Gardener : A Guide to Growing Your Garden Organically ~ Karen Davis Cutler

Last night I went to Home Depot and walked around for about an hour. I didn't buy anything, just looked. It's all I can do right now! I think I have collected enough paint samples to be arrested for stealing! haha

My first post

My husband and I just bought a 1972 ranch home on 10 acres in Burns, Tennessee. The land is rolling to level pastures with an old barn and a spring fed pond on the property. The house looks like as if it has been "untouched" by the hands of time. The 1970's wood panaling throughout, linoleum flooring and flowered wallpaper look as though they were freshly installed... seriously! We plan on completely renovating our "flashback to the seventies" ranch home as well as making some useful improvements to the land. In the process, I will be learning everything there is to know about agriculture, farming, gardening and of course, remodeling. This blog will serve as a guide to anyone who is interested in turning an outdated house into a home they can call their own.... and also for those of you who believe that land can be purposed for something other than asphalt, concrete and more subdivisions.
